Hi Reader, what career paths beyond academia are available to scientists?

We usually don’t know much about this topic, as it is rarely addressed at university.

However, this knowledge can make your planning, job search, and self-exploration much easier and more rewarding.

Therefore, today we make it short: I have summarized seven main paths in a coherent overview for you.

Mapping Future Opportunities

Knowing about the different career paths is important for two main reasons.

A) You can only explore what you are aware of.

Although it can feel unproductive, investing time in finding out which career paths will pay off in the long term is important. Only then can you properly prioritize and determine what is right for you. Taking action and applying is key, but make sure not to skip the first two steps entirely.

In other words, you must know that a possibility exists; otherwise, you cannot assess whether it might lead to your dream job.

B) Second, hearsay can prevent us from finding our vocation.

We often associate certain positions with a somewhat vague intuition.

> As long as we lack a basic understanding of what different positions really look like, we deprive ourselves of genuinely interesting opportunities.
